“The spirit of jazz and bluegrass is improvisation” Ben explains how the two genres (Highlights)

Ben Weiss of Pixie and the Partygrass Boys is the latest guest on Roots Music Rambler. Jason Falls asks him how a group of jazz musicians became a bluegrass band and how the genres are both similar and different. He said, “The spirit of jazz and bluegrass is improvisation,” and explains how the two genres meet quite profoundly.

He also explained the bluegrass scene in the band’s native Utah, which has been jump-started by Kentuckian Amanda Grapes, the band’s fiddle player.
