Chicagoan Francesca Folinazzo (Frank) founded Roots Music Rambler as a music and travel blog in a pre-pandemic world. COVID killed events and travel plus her desire to play her banjo. Falls texted her in 2023 and said, 'Let's bring it back as a podcast!' He was raised on John Prine, babysat on Waylon Jennings and taught to drink and cuss the proper, mountain way. He hails from Pikeville, Ky., the birthplace of Dwight Yoakum, whose annual festival is Hillbilly Days.

The Last Revel harmonies remind us of The Ghost of Paul Revere (and we’re not the first)

A new episode of Roots Music Rambler drops Friday! This week we visit with longtime folk rock band @thelastrevel. Its new album is out and Falls drew some parallels in their songs and the amazing harmonies of bands like The Ghost of Paul Revere. Fiddle player Vinnie Donatelle said was not the first time he’d heard that.

Hear more of the interview with the band, including the reasons for their long hiatus a few years ago, plus Frank and Falls’s Pickin’ the Grinnin pick by listening at rootsmusicrambler.com, watching on YouTube, or downloading wherever you get podcasts.

Los Gallos is working toward a new album by the end of this year!

As with every guest on Roots Music Rambler, we ask the question — Are you working on a new album. We did the same with this week’s guest Los Gallos. Their Mexican-influenced sound mixed with more Americana / singer-songwriter type songs is keeping the band high on the list of rising groups in the space.

Hear the full interview plus news about the podcast and picks from Frank and Falls for new music. Find it at rootsmusicrambler.com, on YouTube now as a full video show, or download it wherever you listen to podcasts.

One of the biggest inspirations for Chicago-based Los Gallos? Freddy Fender!

The fantastic Los Gallos is our latest guest on Roots Music Rambler. Ric Salazar and Henry Fajardo from the Chicago-based band join us to talk about their sound, their Mexican influences through their family heritage and a lot more.

Ric said he was even raised on Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash and the great Freddy Fender, which inspired a lot of what Los Gallos writes and plays today.
